Blog #1 – Captain Josh Crashes the Louis Vuitton Cup in Style

7/23/13

Last Saturday was a busy day for Captain Josh and sailing vessel “Matador”. Setting out from  HYPERLINK “http://www.lamarcebicheria.com/san-francisco/” La Mar, an acclaimed Peruvian restaurant on San Francisco’s Pier 1.5, Captain Josh and a group of six people cast off on an epic private charter on the bay. First up was an up close viewing of a third round matchup of the Luis Vuitton Cup, a preliminary competition that sets the stage for the famed America’s Cup taking place later on this summer, the 162-year-old race that determines the world’s fastest sailing boat and crew.

The day’s race saw Italian team Luna Rossa pilot their massive  HYPERLINK “http://www.americascup.com/en/about/boats” AC72 catamaran
around the 12-mile course unopposed, as the their opponent, Artemis Racing, failed to show up due to an earlier accident. Although the match only featured a single craft, Captain Josh managed to bring the group within plain sight of the action, just yards from Alcatraz and at times only a few feet from the massive catamaran. Needless to say, it was an experience of a lifetime for the lucky participants, all of whom enjoyed the spectacle over glasses of champagne and wine and the wind in their hair.

After the race, the charter proceeded to tour the city front, giving group members a chance to relax and get a good look at the new  HYPERLINK “http://www.exploratorium.edu/” Exploratorium on Pier 15, the iconic Ferry Building and the  HYPERLINK “http://www.americascup.com/concert-series” America’s Cup Pavilion, site of a number of big-ticket concerts this summer. Continuing onward, the group passed by South Beach, where teams Luna Rossa and Emirates store their boats, allowing behind-the-scenes views of the racers and their equipment, and ended up in McCovey Cove, site of AT&T Park and the 2012 world champion San Francisco Giants. After nearly three hours on the water, the group decided to head back to Pier 1.5, brimming with excitement over what they had just been a part of.

Check back for more tidbits about Captain Josh’s adventures, as well as a few of the potential destinations he can take you to on the bay.
