About

This lesson was designed for those with no previous foiling experience who want to learn the sport! Rent our gear for $50 or bring your own. Learning to foilboard or wingfoil through boat towing offers an ideal introduction to these challenging water sports by creating a controlled, consistent learning environment. When towed, riders can focus solely on the fundamental skill of balancing on the foil without having to simultaneously manage wind conditions, wing control, or wave timing. The steady speed provided by the boat allows beginners to find the “sweet spot” where the foil generates enough lift to elevate the board – typically between 8-12 mph. This controlled acceleration lets riders gradually experience the sensation of foiling while maintaining a predictable tow line tension, making it easier to practice the subtle weight shifts needed for stable flight. The boat driver can also adjust speed precisely based on the rider’s comfort level, and maintain a straight path in flat water, minimizing variables that could interfere with the learning process. Additionally, clear communication with the boat driver and the ability to quickly restart after falls makes the learning progression more efficient than self-powered attempts, where maintaining consistent speed and direction is much more challenging.
